Summary: We tested Silk & Snow’s new Aire Upholstered Bed Frame in a rustic A-frame mountain home, and it exceeded expectations, effortlessly combining style, functionality, sustainability, and durability for a chic yet practical centerpiece.

What I Love:

  • Chic, Sustainable Design: I love that the Aire Bed Frame looks so modern and stylish while being made with responsibly sourced materials—it feels good knowing it’s eco-conscious and nontoxic.
  • Durable Construction: This thing is solid! The frame, rubberwood legs, and LVL slats give me confidence that it will last for years of daily use.
  • Versatile, Easy-Care Fabric: The neutral upholstered finish pairs with most styles and is super easy to clean—a huge win for pet owners.

Things To Note:

  • Premium Price Point: It’s definitely an investment at $1,250 for a queen-size. I think it’s worth it for the quality; it might not fit every budget.
  • Heavier Setup: The frame is pretty hefty, so you’ll need a second pair of hands to fully assemble it.

When my little sister and her husband closed on an A-frame tucked into the pine trees in the mountain town where we grew up, I could already picture the life they’d build there: golden-lit mornings, wool-blanket evenings, and their two German shepherds racing around the yard. The house is small but cozy, and that massive bedroom window overlooking the forest immediately suggested the perfect bed frame. 🏔️

We’ve decorated together before, filling her rental with sustainable, thoughtfully made pieces, so when she texted asking for bed frame recommendations, I knew exactly what to suggest. Then Silk & Snow generously offered to send us their Aire Upholstered Bed Frame in Cloud ($1050+) to review—a serendipitous alignment. From the moment it arrived, the match was obvious: low-profile, sculptural, soft, and practical, the kind of piece that immediately grounds a bedroom while remaining chic and inviting.

The story behind Silk & Snow

Silk & Snow is a Toronto-based company that’s built a reputation around thoughtful design, sustainability, and durability. They started in 2017 with a single mattress but have since branched into furniture, linens, and home goods. Their whole philosophy is to use quality materials and clean lines to create pieces that last for years, not seasons. And this philosophy fits beautifully with a mountain-home lifestyle.

“Silk & Snow’s whole philosophy is to use quality materials and clean lines to create pieces that last for years, not seasons.”

I love how Silk & Snow prioritizes responsibly sourced woods, solid joinery, and upholstery built to take real life (think pets, moves, children). For my sister, who loves a quiet, clean aesthetic but doesn’t want to walk on eggshells around her furniture, that balance was exactly what she was looking for.

Unboxing and my first impressions

We decided on the Aire bedframe in warm taupe (other options include desert sand, ivory white, and soft cream), and when it arrived, it came in several boxes, all neatly labeled and well-protected. My sister and her husband carried everything up to the bedroom while I coached them over the phone from Los Angeles. (Moral support: Check!)

Even unpacking made the quality obvious. The fabric is a performance-grade polyester over foam, treated with a non-toxic DWR (durable water-repellent) coating. That finish resists stains and makes cleaning easier, which is precisely the kind of finish you want in a home with big, muddy dogs. And because it’s non-toxic, it gave us all peace of mind, knowing the fabric wasn’t harmful to human or pet health. Here’s what came in the box:

  • A generously padded, oversized headboard
  • Two sturdy side rails
  • A footboard/frame base to complete the perimeter
  • Poplar LVL slats + a center support beam
  • Four solid rubberwood legs
  • All the hardware needed for assembly

Specs & dimensions (because the numbers matter)

Here’s how this frame breaks down (based on Silk & Snow’s official specs):

  • Size (King): 90.7″ wide × 94.8″ long × 37″ high
  • Platform height: 11″ with 1.5″ clearance underneath
Mattress compatibility: Best with mattresses 9–13″ tall (read our Silk and Snow mattress review here!)
  • Materials: Engineered wood frame, solid rubberwood legs, poplar LVL slats + center support beam, polyurethane foam padding, 100% polyester upholstered covering
  • Slats: The slats are 2″ wide and spaced 3″ apart, per spec

Assembling the Aire Bedframe

Putting the frame together was one of the most enjoyable “put together a piece of furniture” moments to witness. My brother-in-law led the build, my sister handed parts, and I cheered them on (virtually). No power tools, just good instructions and well-designed parts. Here are the highlights:

  • Everything fit together with precision. The joinery is tight, and the hardware is lined up exactly.
  • The headboard slides in easily and feels luxuriously padded without being floppy.
  • The LVL slats and center support beam created a rock-solid, squeak-free base.
The rubberwood legs screw in securely and give the frame a grounded, warm presence.
  • Fun packaging detail: the slats are packed inside the headboard box. It’s a smart way to reduce waste and protect the slats in transit.

All told, it took about 90 minutes for two people to build—no profanity, no missing parts, just a satisfying DIY project that resulted in a brand new, beautiful bed.

30 days with the Aire bedframe

“The Aire really proves itself in day-to-day life in a mountain home with two big dogs, and Silk & Snow’s ethos shines through in the design.”

The Aire really proves itself in day-to-day life in a mountain home with two big dogs, and Silk & Snow’s ethos shines through in the design. This isn’t furniture meant to be replaced every few years, and the high-quality materials make it feel like a long-term investment rather than a quick buy. The fabric wipes clean effortlessly after muddy paws, resists accidental spills, and handles the occasional jump from both dogs without compromising stability. Spot cleaning is simple and requires no special tools or cleaners. Plus, the low-profile 11-inch platform makes it easy for the dogs to hop on and off, and it makes cleaning underneath easy! Despite the lower height, the headboard feels substantial and sculptural, anchoring the room in a soft, modern way without dominating the space.

As for warranty, Silk & Snow also backs the frame with a limited warranty and offers a 30-day furniture trial, so you can try it in your home with confidence, though return shipping is the customer’s responsibility.

Bottom line: The Aire frame is more than just a piece of furniture: it’s a foundation, in every sense of the word. For a mountain home, a family with dogs, or anyone who wants a refined but real-life-ready bed frame, it’s a truly compelling choice.
